You can explore the Grumsin Beech Forest on guided walks.

The walks are led by experienced Naturwacht staff, qualified staff of the NABU-Informationszentrum and certified nature and countryside guides.

We recommend interested nature lovers to make use of this offer, since the Grumsin Beech Forest lies in a sensitive nature reserve with the highest protection status. For over 20 years, this has guaranteed that a number of very rare animal and plant species can survive here.

All guided walks take place on Saturdays and Sundays. Because of a limited number of places available, participants are required to register 7 days in advance.

Unique Insights

A guided walk through the World Natural Heritage Grumsin Beech Forest with the Kulturlandschaftsverein Uckermark e.V.

This guided walk allows you to experience the uniqueness of this ancient beech forest and its intact moors first-hand. Starting on paved paths, you will learn a lot about the fascinating history of this woodland. We then go cross-country and pass through all phases of life of the lowland beech forest. Sturdy footwear and surefootedness are a must on this tour.

Meeting point: Klein Ziethen, village entrance coming from Angermünde, before junction to Luisenfelde.

Grumsin – Impressions

A walk focussing on cultural history, land use, forest and open countryside, geology and water.
The tour starts and ends at the church or the Dorfgemeinschaftshaus in Altkünkendorf.

The walk takes us on a historic cobbled road through richly structured open country lined with dense hedges. Again and again we have an unobstructed view of the terminal moraine with the Grumsin woodland. We reach Louisenhof, an old farmyard which is today home to an artist's family.
The second half of the walk leads us through a magnificent old forest that allows us profound insights into the World Natural Heritage Grumsin. A diverse ancient beech forest grows on unexpectedly undulating terrain and surrounds beautiful forest lakes.

Across Ice Age Terrain

Please note: no circular walk!

A walk focussing on forest and open countryside, forest lakes and moors .
Starting point is the historic steam mill in Groß Ziethen, finishing point the church or the Dorfgemeinschaftshaus in Altkünkendorf. A horse-drawn carriage will take the walkers back to Groß Ziethen via a different way to the walk.

We start our walk in the Hugenot village of Groß Ziethen at the historic steam mill.
Walking through fields and meadows south of Grumsin Beech Forest, we approach the World Natural Heritage site. Here we find apart from ancient beech stands also various water bodies. We can see forest lakes and different moors on both sides of the path. Everywhere in the woods we find traces of human activity from recent and older history.
The walk's final destination is Altkünkendorf to the north of the woodland. Here we are awaited by a horse-drawn carriage which takes us back to the old steam mill via an old country road and charming forest tracks.
